Hello Wonderful First Grade Havurah Families!
This week, we gathered with Purim in mind! It was our last week with Joyce as our holiday specialist, and so to prepare for her focus on Purim, we began by talking about our alter egos and what they express about us. Then we created alter ego masks in a wide range of characters:
-Becca painted her mask shades of blue to represent the ocean as her alter ego (how poetic!)
-Oliver created his mask in the likeness of his favorite animal super hero.
-Jacob created his mask with two sides, one happy and one sad, so that he could have multiple alter egosWe were then joined by Joyce with her mini megillah. She did a wonderful job setting the Persian scene for a retelling of the Purim story. The kids loved seeing Joyce's mini Megillah. Hannah was particularly curious about how the scroll was made. We were impressed by the children’s knowledge about Purim and enthusiasm for the story and traditions.
Over our Shabbat ritual, we talked about wants/needs and how they play a role in our everyday lives and in the stories we hear. Some wants we talked about were: candy, recess, and juice. Some needs covered were: family and nature. We then built our own want/needs trees with the base as needs and the leaves as wants before being joined by Megan and the other class for music.
